Weekend Fun...

First a finished object...it's Elle's mohair cardigan made from the luscious purple mohair that I won on Elizabeth's blog contest last spring!

As you can see, Elle was full of pre-teen 'tude and not in any mood to be photographed.

Clare and Gillian's birthday is a couple of weeks away and with scheduling issues and whatnot Sunday was selected for their lunch with Uncle B and Aunt G birthday outing. My SIL and BIL live in a fabulously urban home downtown and do way cooler stuff than we do, so this weekend is pretty special for the girls. This Sunday's theme was "dining on seafood" and hitting Toronto's Doors Open festival. Tres interesting and of course the girls scored some goodies from Fabricawakuwaku

Aren't they cute?

Frankly, I'm stunned that SIL and BIL got Elle to try an oyster...perhaps my little "Chicken-a-terian" is branching out in her old age. But then again, near famine conditions at camp over the long weekend did force her to consume (drumroll) her first ever hamburger. For Elle, that was a real Fear Factor moment.

The birthday lunch was a kick in the pants to me to start thinking about C and G's birthday gifts and curiously enough, this weekend was the launch date for this:

The Wii Fit! Definitely a good fit giftwise for Clare...but while I was out trying to acquire one, I was met with the same knee-slapping snorts of laughter from salesclerks that greeted me days after our major snowstorm when I tried to locate a snowshovel at Canadian Tire. Most places stopped taking names for restocked items within an hour of the initial lots selling out.

Anyone got a spare Wii Fit??

A Little Late for Mother's Day

I don't usually post pictures of myself on this blog. This has less to do with perceived issues of internet security than a deeply rooted belief that I photograph badly. But an old friend was housecleaning recently and sent me a photo from his wedding (back in 1992) K and J were married six weeks after DH and I wed and this was a candid shot from the reception. (I will add that the wedding had a "costume" theme and my unusual attire is not attributable to questionable taste on my part.)

Again, technically, not a great picture, but an interesting one. Interesting because anyone who knows my family will look at the photo and say...OMG that's Pierrette. Pierrette is my mother and while for the most part, I don't think that we greatly resemble each other (my mother's family is French Canadian and for the most part dark and petite, while I favour the big-boned ruddiness of my father's Irish relatives)...in that photo, we are dead ringers.

Edited to add the best picture of my mother that I could find...in profile and at a similar age to me in my photo. (That's Uncle B and Aunt D left and centre.)

Oh, and a finished object...another of the mesh shopping bags.

Mother's Day Weekend

It's been a pretty busy week ChezChelle...Ellery's performed her play on Wednesday and Thursday, Clare returned from a 5 day trip to Ottawa with SIL, BIL and Cousin C and Ellery, Clare and I went to Mother/Daughter Camp up near Haliburton.

Here's a snap of Clare in Ottawa with the National Art Gallery behind her.

And a picture of Ellery (still wearing the stage makeup for her role as Collodi Cricket in a production of "No Strings Attached"...sort of a musical Pinocchio)

And here we are on Mother's Day Weekend...big girls first...

And the daughters

The weather was pretty nice on Saturday, so we indulged in some water sports...

And some climbing...

Knitting-wise, I've finished the pieces for Ellery's cardigan and need to block it lightly before seaming it. Pics to follow...
